Modi Government Working to Bring Internet Access to Everyone by 2022: Ajit Pai

Pai, chairman of the US Federal Communications Commission, said at the ‘India Ideas Summit’ on Wednesday, “I appreciate the ambitious goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India to bring the Internet to everyone by 2022. By 2022, the government is working on the goal of linking 50 percent of the houses with fixed broadband.

Significantly, the Indian government is working on improving the online infrastructure and increasing the internet connectivity under the ‘Digital India’ program. Its purpose is to make the country a digitally empowered society and a knowledge based economy. Pai said that the Government is adopting a strong strategy to achieve these goals. This includes steps to install about 20 lakh public Wi-Fi hotspots in rural areas and expanding and expanding the Universal Service Liability Fund.
