A picture of the ongoing protests at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is going viral on social media, in which Delhi Police personnel are seen running sticks on a girl. This picture turned out to be misleading in the investigation . This picture has nothing to do with the ongoing protests in JNU.

Facebook user Jaglan Manish Chaudhary shared a picture, wrote, “New India Nationalism – Welcome to New India.” When daughters will eat sticks, then only daughters will grow… Slogan has changed. Wow, my democratic country. ”

During the reverse image, we got the news published on 23 December 2012 on the English website India Today , which mentioned the police lathi-charge during the Nirbhaya movement. We got this picture in the same news.

In the advanced search, we found the same picture on the website of the news agency Reuters, which was uploaded on 22 December 2012. According to the information provided with the photo, “Policemen firing sticks on protesters near Rashtrapati Bhavan on 22 December 2012 in New Delhi.”
