It is no secret that the more motivation you have to achieve your goals, the faster you will achieve them, as well as achieving substantially greater long-term success. However, the problem is that most people have a hard time getting up early, working harder than others and reaching their goals much faster.

Understand, these are not special abilities with which only some elect are born. Anyone can get into the routine of getting up at 5 a.m. if they really want it. Anyone can move from an average worker to a high-performance worker in a relatively short period of time. The problem is that most people do not have that level of desire to do these difficult things.

The problem of “desire” brings us to the subject of external motivation. The external motivation is that you work only for money to buy a car that you have dreamed of or any type of materialistic article in which you have set yourself.

To clarify, I am not saying that materialism is bad. What I am saying is that it is not prudent for external motivators to be their main source of motivation for this simple reason, it is not a good source of long-term motivation.

Once you have the car, the house or the financial income you wanted, what’s next? Many times it leaves you with a feeling of emptiness because the satisfaction of getting your new car or house only lasts a very short period of time. Then, once you have achieved it, it is increasingly difficult to press for something new because there is little or no internal impulse to get up and achieve more.

Internal motivation changes this dynamic because the internal reward of domain or purpose is not tangible. Instead, it never ends and when something never ends, you just want to keep working more and more.

 

Below are the 3 different types of internal motivation that you can start using today:

1. The Desire to win

This comes from the legendary Tim Grover in his book Relentless, where he talks about the relentless and eternal drive of his clients to win, such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. All these guys wanted to do was win. The millions of dollars they earned were simply a double product of their constant desire to win.

Working so hard and for so many hours requires a much greater motivation than simple money. On top of that, almost all the billionaires, including Donald Trump, have said they are not motivated by money. Money is just a way to keep score. It is not the real motivator.

2. Purpose

This is possibly the most important. Almost all successful entrepreneurs have some kind of greater purpose that motivates them. Take for example Elon Musk and Steve Jobs.

The main difference between these two is not only their work ethic, but the individual purpose that each of them has to work hard. I could argue that these two entrepreneurs have had the greatest impact in the world we live in.

When you find a more important purpose for your work, you will be surprised how much you begin to enjoy what you are doing. You may get external things as a result of your success, but you are not the driving force why you wake up early every day and go to work.

3. Expertise

The reason why mastering a specific trade or multiple skills is so important is because, once again, it never ends. There is no point in your journey where you can completely master something because there is always another level to reach. This is one of the reasons why video games are so popular because there is always a higher level to reach. You must not stop playing until you have reached the next level.

With all the internal motivators, especially the domain, it becomes difficult for the people around you to understand why you work so hard. Everyone around you is looking for the next paycheck to buy a house or buy a new watch that they can show to their friends.

However, being motivated in this way usually means that the person does not have a real love for what he does because if he loved what he does, the real satisfaction would come from an inner driver like winning, improving his trade or working on his purpose. days.

It is very easy to see a very rich person and see all the cars, the glamor and the big houses and think that they are materialistic. But in almost all cases, these external things were simply a double product of their success. They were not the motivators to succeed in the first place.

Once you change not only your level of desire, but also the type of desire, completely change the game of success for yourself because you are now in a position where you really want to work hard.

You do not have to feel that working hard or getting up early is a chore and I guarantee that once you start finding powerful internal motivators, you will be surprised how much and how much you want to work to achieve your goals.
