Bollywood producer Karim Morani has surrendered to police here in connection with a rape case hours after the Supreme Court dismissed his bail claim, authorities confirmed on Saturday. He surrendered at the Hayathnagar police station on the outskirts of the city around midnight, police said.
The producer of “Chennai Express” will be produced in court later in the day. Morani faces the charge of raping a Delhi woman. The 25-year-old aspiring actor alleged he repeatedly raped her by threatening to publish his private photos on social networks.
Police had booked him in January on charges of rape, unfair confinement, criminal intimidation and deception. The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed Morani’s request to challenge the Hyderabad High Court verdict that canceled his bail.
The Supreme Court on Sept. 5 had upheld the court’s decision to cancel Morani’s bail.
Morani was reserved for deception, rape, unjust confinement), criminal intimidation), and cohabitation caused by a man deceptively inducing a marriage belief under the Indian Penal Code.
